ஒரு நூற்றாண்டுக்கும் மேலான காலங்களில் கண்டறியப்படாத அளவில் மிகப்பெரிய வைரம் ஆனது போட்ஸ்வானாவில் உள்ள ஒரு சுரங்கத்தில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த 2,492 காரட் வைரம் ஆனது அச்சுரங்கத்தில் இதுவரையில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்ட இரண்டாவது பெரிய வைரமாகும். 1905 ஆம் ஆண்டிற்குப் பிறகு கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்ட மிகப்பெரிய வைரம் இதுவாகும். போட்ஸ்வானா நாடானது, ரஷ்யாவிற்கு அடுத்தபடியாக இயற்கை வைரங்களை மிக அதிகளவில் உற்பத்தி செய்யும் இரண்டாவது நாடாகும்.

❖ The National Geoscience Awards (NGA) are prestigious awards instituted by the Ministry of Mines. ❖ It aims to recognize and celebrate extraordinary achievements and contributions in the field of geosciences. ❖ The awards for 2023 presented to 21 Geoscientists by the President of India. ❖ It consists of 12 awards which include 9 individual awards and 3 team awards. ❖ The National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement 2023 was bestowed upon Prof. Dhiraj Mohan Banerjee. ❖ National Young Geoscientist Award 2023 was presented to Dr. Ashutosh Pandey.
மத்திய அரசானது தேசிய பனிப்பாறை ஏரி உடைப்பு சார்ந்த வெள்ள அபாயக் குறைப்புத் திட்டத்திற்கு (NGRMP) அங்கீகாரம் அளித்துள்ளது. இந்தியாவில் அமைந்துள்ள இமயமலைத் தொடர்களில் ஏறக்குறைய 7,500 பனிப்பாறை ஏரிகள் உள்ளன என்ற நிலையில் அவற்றில் சில தொலை உணர்வு கருவிகள் மூலம் கண்காணிக்கப்படுகின்றன. தேசியப் பேரிடர் மேலாண்மை ஆணையம் (NDMA) ஆனது, இடரைக் குறைப்பதற்கான தணிப்பு நடவடிக்கைகளுக்காக 189 "அதிக ஆபத்து நிலையில் உள்ள" பனிப்பாறை ஏரிகளின் பட்டியலை இறுதி செய்துள்ளது. மத்திய நீர் வள ஆணையம் (CWC) ஆனது 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் மாததத்தின் அறிக்கையில் 902 பனிப்பாறை ஏரிகள் மற்றும் நீர்நிலைகள் செயற்கைக்கோள் மூலம் கண்காணிக்கப்படுவதாகக் கூறியது.
❖ The National Glacial Lake Outburst Floods Risk Mitigation Programme (NGRMP) was approved by the Centre. ❖ There are nearly 7,500 glacial lakes in the Himalayan Mountain ranges located in India and some of them are being monitored via remote sensing. ❖ The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has finalised a list of 189 “high-risk” glacial lakes for mitigation measures to reduce the risk. ❖ The Central Water Commission (CWC) in an October 2023 report stated that 902 glacial lakes and water bodies are being monitored via satellite.

❖ Department of Posts has launched a philately scholarship scheme Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana. ❖ It will help to promotion of aptitude and research in stamps as a hobby for generating interest regarding philately amongst students. ❖ It grants scholarship to those meritorious students of classes 6 to 9, whose academic records are good as well as who have adopted Philately as a hobby. ❖ The amount of scholarship will be ₹ 6000/- per annum at the rate of ₹ 500/- per month, which will be payable on quarterly basis.
