இந்தியாவின் 51வது தலைமை நீதிபதி

குடியரசுத் தலைவர் திரெளபதி முர்மு, தலைமை நீதிபதி சஞ்சீவ் கண்ணாவிற்குப் பதவிப் பிரமாணம் செய்து வைத்தார். அவர் ஆறு மாதங்கள் இந்தியாவின் தலைமை நீதிபதியாகப் பணியாற்ற உள்ளார். ஏற்கனவே வருமான வரித் துறையின் மூத்த அரசுத் தரப்புச் சட்ட ஆலோசகராகவும் அவர் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார். 2004 ஆம் ஆண்டில், அவர் டெல்லியின் தேசியத் தலைநகர் பிராந்தியத்திற்கான அரசுத் தரப்பு சட்ட ஆலோசகராக (உரிமையியல்) நியமிக்கப்பட்டார். 2005 ஆம் ஆண்டில் டெல்லி உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தின் கூடுதல் நீதிபதியாக நியமிக்கப்பட்ட அவர் 2006 ஆம் ஆண்டில் நிரந்தர நீதிபதியானார். 2019 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 18 ஆம் தேதியன்று, நீதிபதி கண்ணா அவர்கள், முன்னதாக உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தின் தலைமை நீதிபதியாகப் பணியாற்றாத நிலைமையிலேயே உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தின் நீதிபதியாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டார்.

❖ President Droupadi Murmu has administered the oath of office to Justice Sanjiv Khanna. ❖ He is set to serve a six-month term as Chief Justice of India. ❖ He also served as the Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department. ❖ In 2004, he was appointed Standing Counsel (Civil) for the National Capital Territory of Delhi. ❖ He was appointed an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2005 and became a permanent judge in 2006. ❖ On January 18, 2019, Justice Khanna was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court without having previously served as Chief Justice of a High Court.

Sector-wise impact from heat wave

❖ The State Planning Commission (SPC) has looked at impact across the sectors including occupational impacts and has made key recommendations. ❖ Its report is titled ‘Beating the Heat-Tamil Nadu Heat Mitigation Strategy’. ❖ The report has flagged the issue of populations in adverse working conditions like the outdoor workers, informal workers, gig workers, workers exposed to mechanical/indoor heat. ❖ The report also dealt with challenges in animal husbandry, fisheries, forests and mangroves and made key recommendations. ❖ Some recommendations are o Establishing mechanisms for monitoring heat stress levels in the workplace through heat stress indices, wearable sensors, or weather monitoring systems o Developing emergency response plans for heat-related incidents, including protocols for first aid, accessing medical care, and evacuating workers.

IUCN அமைப்பின் முதல் உலகளாவிய மரங்கள் மதிப்பீடு

சர்வதேச இயற்கைப் பாதுகாப்பு ஒன்றியத்தின் (IUCN) அழிந்து வரும் உயிரினங்களின் செந்நிறப் பட்டியலின் புதுப்பிப்பின் போது முதல் உலகளாவிய மரங்கள் மதிப்பீடு ஆனது வெளியிடப்பட்டது. இதன் கண்டுபிடிப்புகள் ஆனது உயிரிப் பன்முகத்தன்மை உடன்படிக்கையின் 16வது பங்குதாரர்கள் (COP16) மாநாட்டில் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டன. உலகில் உள்ள மர இனங்களில் சுமார் 38 சதவீதம் ஆனது தற்போது அழிவை எதிர் நோக்கி வருவதாக இந்த மதிப்பீடு கண்டறிந்துள்ளது.அபாயத்தில் உள்ளன. உலகின் மிகவும் உயர்ந்த மரங்கள் பன்முகத்தன்மை கொண்ட தென் அமெரிக்காவில், மதிப்பிடப் பட்ட 13,668 இனங்களில் 3,356 மர இனங்கள் ஆபத்தில் உள்ளன. IUCN அமைப்பின் செந்நிறப் பட்டியலில் தற்போது 166,061 இனங்கள் உள்ளன, அவற்றில் 46,337 அழியும் அபாயத்தில் உள்ளன.

IUCN First Global Tree Assessment

❖ The first Global Tree Assessment was published in an update of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. ❖ The findings were announced at the COP16 to CBD. ❖ This assessment has found that nearly 38 per cent of the world’s tree species are now facing extinction. ❖ At least 16,425 of the 47,282 tree species analysed are in danger of extinction. ❖ In South America, which boasts the world’s highest tree diversity, 3,356 out of the 13,668 assessed species are at risk. ❖ The IUCN Red List now includes 166,061 species, of which 46,337 are threatened with extinction.

PM-வித்யா லட்சுமி திட்டம்

ஆண்டிற்கு சுமார் 22 லட்சத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாணவர்களுக்குப் பயனளிப்பதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்ட பிரதமர்-வித்யாலட்சுமி திட்டத்திற்கு மத்திய அமைச்சரவை ஒப்புதல் அளித்துள்ளது. இந்தத் திட்டம் ஆனது, "நிதிக் கட்டுப்பாடுகள் ஆனது எந்தவொரு மாணவரையும் உயர் கல்வியைத் தொடர்வதைத் தடுக்கக் கூடாது என்பதற்காகத் தகுதியுள்ள அனைத்தும் மாணவர்களுக்கு நிதியுதவி அளிக்க உள்ளது". * சுமார் 7.5 லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரையிலான கடனைப் பெற முயலும் மாணவர்களுக்கு, நிலுவையில் உள்ள 75 சதவீத கடனுக்கான உத்தரவாதத்தை அரசாங்கம் வழங்கும். ஆண்டு வருமானம் 8 லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரையில் உள்ள பொருளாதாரத்தில் நலிவடைந்த குடும்பங்களைச் சேர்ந்த மாணவர்கள் சுமார் 10 லட்சம் ரூபாய் வரையிலான கடனுக்கு மூன்று சதவீத வட்டி மானியம் பெற உரிமை வழங்கப்படும். அமைச்சகத்தின் உயர்கல்வித் துறையானது, PM-வித்யாலட்சுமி என்ற ஒருங்கிணைந்த இணைய தளத்தினை அமைக்க உள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் மாணவர்கள் கல்விக் கடனுக்கு விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம் மற்றும் அனைத்து வங்கிகளிலும் வட்டி மானியம் பெறலாம்.

PM-Vidya Laxmi Scheme 2024

The Union cabinet approved the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme that aims to cover over 22 lakh students a year. ❖ The scheme will provide the financial support to meritorious students so that financial constraints do not prevent anyone from pursuing higher studies. ❖ For students looking at loans of up to Rs 7.5 lakh, the government will provide credit guarantees to the tune of 75 per cent of the outstanding defaults. ❖ Students belonging to economically-weaker families with an annual income of up to Rs 8 lakh — will be entitled to a three per cent interest subvention on loans of up to Rs 10 lakh. ❖ The ministry’s department of higher education will set up a unified portal, PMVidyalaxmi ❖ This will allow the students to apply for the education loan as well as interest subvention to all the banks.
