WHO’s New Global Malaria Strategy for 2030

❖ WHO Global Malaria Program published a new operational strategy outlining its priorities and key activities up to 2030 to help change the trajectory of malaria trends. ❖ The strategy outlines 4 strategic objectives where WHO will focus its efforts, o Including developing norms and standards, o Introducing new tools and innovation, o Promoting strategic information for impact, and o Providing technical leadership of the global malaria response . ❖ In 2022 there were an estimated 608,000 malaria-related deaths and 249 million new malaria cases globally.  ❖ Africa bears a disproportionate burden, accounting for 95% of malaria deaths and 94% of cases worldwide.

ஈரானின் காமிகேஸ் ஆளில்லா விமானங்கள்

பேச்சுவழக்கில் தற்கொலை அல்லது "தற்கொலைப் பாங்கான தாக்குதலில் ஈடுபடும்" ஆளில்லா விமானங்கள் என அறியப்படும் ஒரு புதிய பறக்கும் ஆயுதத்தினை உருவாக்கியுள்ளதாக ஈரான் அறிவித்துள்ளது. இந்த ஆளில்லா விமானம் ஆனது, 30 முதல் 60 நிமிடங்கள் வரை வானில் பறக்கும் திறன் கொண்டதாக இருக்கும். இது 40 கிலோமீட்டர் தூர வரம்பிற்குள் 3 முதல் 6 கிலோகிராம் எடை வரை சுமந்து செல்லக் கூடியது. சமீபத்தில், ஈரானின் ஆளில்லா விமான உற்பத்தி மற்றும் ஏற்றுமதி முயற்சிகளை குறி வைத்து அமெரிக்கா, ஐக்கியப் பேரரசு மற்றும் கனடா ஆகிய நாடுகள் ஈரானுக்கு எதிராக புதிய தடைகளை விதித்தன.

Iran’s Kamikaze Drone

❖ Iran revealed the development of a new loitering munition—colloquially known as “suicide” or “kamikaze” drones. ❖ The drone must have a flight endurance of 30 to 60 minutes. ❖ This may carry a payload of 3 to 6 kilograms within a range of 40 kilometres. ❖ Recently, the US, the UK and Canada imposed new sanctions against Iran by targeting the country's drone production and export efforts.

ISSAR 2023 report

❖ ISRO’s annual assessment of the prevailing space situation is also compiled in the form of the Indian Space Situational Assessment Report (ISSAR). ❖ Space assets operating in outer space are vulnerable to various environmental hazards - natural objects like asteroids, comets, and meteoroids, energy and particle flux, and artificial space objects.  In addition, three Indian deep space missions were also active by the end of 2023, namely, Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter, Aditya-L1, and the Propulsion Module of Chandrayaan-3. ❖ A total of 21 Indian satellites have re-entered the atmosphere till the end of 2023. ❖ In the year 2023 alone, 8 Indian satellites have re-entered the atmosphere. ❖ A total of 82 rocket bodies from Indian launches were placed in orbit till 2023. ❖ According to the report, about 1,37,565 close approach alerts were received from US Space Command. ❖ Also, a total of 3,033 alerts for close approaches within the distance of one kilometre were deduced by the ISRO satellites. ❖ Since the beginning of the Indian space era, a total of 127 Indian satellites, including those from private operators/academic institutions, have been launched till 31st December 2023. ❖ As of 31 Dec 2023, the number of operational satellites owned by Govt. of India is 22 in LEO (Low Earth Orbit) and 29 in GEO (Geo-synchronous Earth Orbit).

இஸ்ரோவின், தற்போதைய விண்வெளி சூழ்நிலைகள் பற்றிய வருடாந்திர மதிப்பீடு ஆனது இந்திய விண்வெளி சூழ்நிலை மதிப்பீட்டு அறிக்கை (ISSAR) என்ற வடிவத்தில் தொகுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. விண்வெளியில் இயங்கும் குறுங்கோள்கள், வால் நட்சத்திரங்கள் மற்றும் விண்கற்கள், ஆற்றல் மற்றும் துகள்களின் ஓட்டம் மற்றும் செயற்கை விண்வெளிப் பொருள்கள் போன்ற இயற்கையான அமைப்புகளான விண்வெளிச் சொத்துக்கள் பல்வேறு சுற்றுச்சூழல் அபாயங்களால் பாதிக்கப்படக்கூடியவையாக உள்ளன.  இந்த அறிக்கையின்படி, அமெரிக்க விண்வெளிக் கட்டுப்பாட்டு அமைப்பிலிருந்து, சுமார் 1,37,565 விண்வெளி பொருட்கள் பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தும் எனும் எச்சரிக்கைகள் பெறப்பட்டுள்ளன. மேலும், ஒரு கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவிற்குள் நெருங்கிய அணுகுமுறைகளுக்கான மொத்தம் 3,033 விண்வெளி அமைப்புகள் புவியை நெருங்கி வர உள்ளதாக கூறப்படும் எச்சரிக்கைகள் இஸ்ரோ செயற்கைக்கோள்களால் வழங்கப்பட்டன. இந்திய விண்வெளி செயல்பாடுகளின் சகாப்தத்தின் தொடக்கத்தில் இருந்து, 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 31ம் தேதி வரையில் தனியார் நிறுவனங்கள்/கல்வி நிறுவனங்களால் மொத்தம் 127 இந்தியச் செயற்கைக்கோள்கள் விண்ணில் ஏவப்பட்டு உள்ளன. 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 31 ஆம் தேதியன்று நிலவரத்தின் படி, செயல்பாட்டில் உள்ள அரசுக்குச் சொந்தமான செயற்கைக்கோள்களின் எண்ணிக்கை புவி தாழ்மட்டச் சுற்றுப் பாதையில் (Low Earth Orbit) 22 மற்றும் புவி ஒத்திசைவு சுற்றுப்பாதையில் (Geo-synchronous Earth Orbit) 29 ஆக உள்ளது. * மேலும், சந்திரயான்-2 சுற்றுக்கலம், ஆதித்யா-L1 மற்றும் சந்திரயான் -3 கலத்தின் உந்து விசை அமைப்பு ஆகிய மூன்று இந்திய விண்வெளி ஆய்வுக் கலங்களும் 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டின் இறுதியில் செயல்பாட்டில் இருந்தன. 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டின் இறுதி வரை மொத்தம் 21 இந்தியச் செயற்கைக்கோள்கள் மீண்டும் வளிமண்டலத்தில் செலுத்தப்பட்டன. 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டில் மட்டும் சுமார் 8 இந்தியச் செயற்கைக்கோள்கள் மீண்டும் வளி மண்டலத்தில் செலுத்தப்பட்டன. இந்திய நாட்டினால் விண்ணில் ஏவப்பட்டவற்றுள் மொத்தம் 82 ஏவுகல பாகங்கள் 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டு வரை சுற்றுப்பாதையில் நிலை நிறுத்தப் பட்டன.

Climate resilience fund – UNHCR

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, launched the UNHCR Climate Resilience Fund. ❖ It aims to boost the protection of refugees and displaced communities who are most threatened by climate change. ❖ For the first time, the Fund will exclusively target financing efforts to protect the most threatened displaced communities, equipping them to prepare for, withstand and recover from climate-related shocks. ❖ In 2022, more than 70 percent of refugees and asylum seekers fled from highly climate-vulnerable countries. ❖ The UNHCR works to protect more than 114 million people forced to flee their homes globally.

மின்னணு வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரங்களின் (EVM) தரவுகளை வாக்காளர் சரிபார்க்கக் கூடிய காகிதத் தணிக்கைச் சோதனை (VVPAT) பதிவுகளுடன் கூடிய முழுமையான மறு சரிபார்ப்பு முறையினை கோரும் மனுக்களை உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் நிராகரித்துள்ளது. மேலும், காகித வாக்குச் சீட்டுகள் மூலமான முந்தைய தேர்தல் முறையினைப்பயன்படுத்தும் நடைமுறைக்கு மாற உத்தரவிடவும் மறுப்பு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.  தற்போது 5% EVM-VVPAT எண்ணிக்கைகள் மட்டுமே எந்தவொரு சட்டமன்றத் தொகுதியிலும் தோராயமாக சரிபார்க்கப் படுகின்றன. தேர்தல் முடிவுகள் குறித்து சந்தேகங்கள் உள்ள வேட்பாளர்களுக்கு மட்டும் புதிய சரி பார்ப்புகள் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப் பட்டுள்ளன. இயந்திரங்களில் உள்ள தரவை 45 நாட்களுக்குப் பாதுகாப்பதற்கான வழிகாட்டுதல் மற்றும் மறு சரிபார்ப்புக்கான செயல்முறை ஆகியவை தேர்தல் செயல்முறையினை வலுப்படுத்தும் என்றும் குறைகளை நிவர்த்தி செய்யும் என்றும் கருதப் படுகிறது. கட்சிகளுக்கென்று பிரத்தியேக பட்டைக் குறியீடுகளை (QR) உருவாக்குவதற்கான ஒரு ஆலோசனையையும் இது வழங்கியது.

Supreme Court verdict on EVMs

❖ The Supreme Court has rejected the pleas seeking 100% cross-verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) data with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) records.  ❖ Also, it refused to direct, return to the previous system of voting through paper ballots. ❖ Only 5% of EVM-VVPAT counts are currently randomly verified in any Assembly constituency. ❖ New checks have been introduced for candidates who have questions over the result. ❖ The direction to preserve the data on the machines for 45 days and a provision to cross-check would strengthen the system and address concerns. ❖ It also gave suggestion of generating party-specific barcodes was articulated

தமிழ்நாட்டில் 42 யானை வழித்தடங்கள்

இம்மாநிலத்தில் உள்ள யானை வழித்தடங்களை அடையாளம் காண்பதற்காக தமிழக அரசானது குழு ஒன்றினை அமைத்திருந்தது. இது 42 யானை வழித்தடங்களின் பட்டியலை வெளியிட்டு, பொதுமக்களிடம் இருந்து கருத்துகளை கோரியுள்ளது. 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டில் சுற்றுச்சூழல், வனம் மற்றும் பருவநிலை மாற்ற அமைச்சகத்தின் யானைகள் வளங்காப்பு திட்டப் பிரிவு பட்டியலிட்ட யானை வழித்தடங்களின் எண்ணிக்கையை விட இந்த எண்ணிக்கை அதிகமாகும். சுற்றுச்சூழல், வனம் மற்றும் பருவநிலை மாற்றத் துறை அமைச்சகத்தின் பிரிவு 20 வழித் தடங்களை அடையாளம் கண்டுள்ளது: அவற்றுள் 15 மாநிலத்திற்குள்ளே அமைந்த வழித் தடங்கள், ஐந்து கர்நாடகா மற்றும் கேரளா ஆகிய மாநிலங்களில் உள்ள காடுகளை இணைக்கும் மாநிலங்களுக்கு இடையேயான பகுதிகளில் அமைந்து உள்ள வழித்தடங்கள் ஆகும். 2023 ஆம் ஆண்டில் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட ஒத்திசைவு கணக்கெடுப்பின்படி, மாநிலத்தில் 2,961 யானைகள் இருப்பதாக மதிப்பிடப் பட்டுள்ளது.  தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள 26 வனப் பிரிவுகளுள் 20 வனப் பிரிவுகளில் 9217.13 சதுர கிலோ மீட்டர் பரப்பளவில் யானைகள் பரவிக் காணப் படுகின்றன.
