The Indian Army is all set to begin receiving another set of Russian Igla-S very short-range air defence systems (VSHORAD) soon. ❖ It is a man-portable air defence system (MANPADS) developed by Russia. ❖ It is a hand-held defence system that can be operated by an individual or crew. ❖ It is designed to bring down low-flying aircraft and can also identify and neutralise air targets such as cruise missiles and drones. ❖ It has a range of 500 metres to 6 kilometres and attack targets up to an altitude of 3.5 kilometres. ❖ The Army is also set to receive the first of two Israeli Hermes-900 Medium Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).

❖ China's High Energy Photon Source (HEPS) was successfully installed in the Huairou Science City in Beijing. ❖ The HEPS, after completion, will stand as one of the brightest synchrotron radiations (SR) sources in the world. ❖ It is also the first high-energy synchrotron radiation facility in China. ❖ The HEPS is designed to accelerate electrons up to energies of 6 gigaelectron volts within its 1.36-kilometer circumference storage ring. ❖ This process will produce high-energy X-rays that can penetrate deep into samples, revealing intricate details at the nano meter scale.

❖ Nearly 12 per cent of children in India who are eligible for measles vaccination have received none of the recommended double-dose. ❖ It is signalling a "concerning gap" in immunisation coverage. ❖ The team found that close to 30 per cent of the eligible children have received only one measles-containing vaccine (MCV1). ❖ About 60 per cent have been fully immunised (MCV2). ❖ The findings showed that zero-dose cases were high in the northeastern states, with Nagaland reporting the greatest share at 26 per cent. ❖ Tamil Nadu was found to report the lowest at 4.6 per cent.
