India’s top trading partner in FY24

China has emerged as India's largest trading partner in the FY 2023-24 with $118.4 billion two-way commerce. ❖ It narrowly edging past the US, according to the data of economic think tank GTRI. ❖ The bilateral trade between India and the US stood at $118.3 billion in 2023-24. ❖ India's exports to China rose by 8.7 per cent to $16.67 billion in the last fiscal. ❖ The main sectors which recorded healthy growth in exports to that country include iron ore, cotton yarn/fabrics/madeups, handloom, spices, fruits and vegetables, plastic and linoleum. ❖ Meanwhile, exports to the US dipped by 1.32 per cent to $77.5 billion in 2023- 24 as against $78.54 billion in 2022-23, while imports dipped by about 20 per cent to $40.8 billion

❖ Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad secured the top rank among the best performing institutes across India. ❖ 64 other universities and institutes from India made it to the 2024 edition of the Global 2000 list.  ❖ IIM Ahmedabad climbed 9 spots to secure 410th rank. ❖ Indian Institute of Science dropped 7 places to sit at 501st position. ❖ IIT Bombay plunged 14 spots and stood at 568th rank. ❖ IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur were also among top ten best performers of the year. ❖ IIT Madras secured 582nd position by descending 12 spots. ❖ Tata Institute of Fundamental Research secured 606th rank as it descended 26 spots.

2023-24 ஆம் நிதியாண்டில் சுமார்118.4 பில்லியன் டாலர் மதிப்பிலான இருவழி வர்த்தகத்துடன் இந்தியாவின் மிகப்பெரிய வர்த்தகப் பங்குத்தாரராக சீனா உருவெடுத்துள்ளது. GTRI எனப்படும் பொருளாதார சிந்தனைக் குழுவின் தரவுகளின்படி அமெரிக்காவினை சீனா விஞ்சியது. இந்தியா மற்றும் அமெரிக்கா ஆகிய நாடுகளுக்கு இடையிலான இருதரப்பு வர்த்தகம் ஆனது 2023-24 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 118.3 பில்லியன் டாலராக இருந்தது.கடந்த நிதியாண்டில் சீனாவுக்கான இந்தியாவின் ஏற்றுமதி 8.7 சதவீதம் அதிகரித்து 16.67 பில்லியன் டாலராக உள்ளது. அந்த நாட்டுக்கான ஏற்றுமதியில் வளமான வளர்ச்சிக்குப் பங்களித்த முக்கியத் துறைகளில் இரும்புத் தாது, பருத்தி நூல்/இழைகள்/முழுத் தயாரிப்புகள், கைத்தறி, மசாலாப் பொருட்கள், பழங்கள் மற்றும் காய்கறிகள், நெகிழிப் பொருட்கள் மற்றும் லினோலியம் ஆகியவை அடங்கும். இதற்கிடையில், 2022-23 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 78.54 பில்லியன் டாலர்களாக இருந்த அமெரிக்காவிற்கான ஏற்றுமதியானது 2023-24 ஆம் ஆண்டில் 1.32 சதவீதம் குறைந்து 77.5 பில்லியன் டாலராக இருந்தது, அதே நேரத்தில் இறக்குமதிகள் சுமார் 20 சதவீதம் குறைந்து 40.8 பில்லியன் டாலராக இருந்தது.

உலகப் பல்கலைக்கழக தரவரிசை மையம்

GST Registration Based on Aadhaar

❖ Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are among the five states that have indicated interest in utilising Aadhaar-based verification for GST registration. ❖ Currently, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Puducherry have launched the Aadhaar authentication of taxpayers on a pilot basis. ❖ GST authorities have so far been using OTP-based Aadhaar authentication to establish the identity of the applicants, seeking registration.

சமீபத்தில் கேரளா முழுவதும் பரவியுள்ள மேற்கு நைல் வைரஸ் (WNV) என்பது பிலாவி விரிடே குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த கொசுக்களால் இரத்தத்தின் மூலம் பரவும் ஒரு வைரஸ் (ஆர்போவைரஸ்) ஆகும். மேற்கு நைல் வைரஸ் என்பது கொசுக்களால் முக்கியமாகப் பரவும் ஒற்றை இழை RNA வைக் கொண்ட வைரஸ் ஆகும். இது ஜப்பானிய மூளைக்காய்ச்சல் மற்றும் மஞ்சள் காய்ச்சலை ஏற்படுத்தும் வைரஸ்களை ஒத்தது ஆகும்.இந்த வைரஸானது ஒருவரிடமிருந்து மற்றொருவருக்கு, பாதிக்கப்பட்ட குலெக்ஸ் கொசுக்கள் கடிப்பதன் மூலம் பரவுகிறது.  அவை பாதிக்கப்பட்டப் பறவைகளிடமிருந்து (பெரும்பாலும் புலம்பெயர்ந்தவை) இந்த வைரஸைப் பெறுகின்றன. இது மனிதர்கள், குதிரைகள் மற்றும் பிற பாலூட்டிகளையும் பாதிக்கிறது.

West Nile Virus – Kerala

The West Nile virus (WNV), a mosquito-borne arbovirus of the family Flaviviridae, has become a cause of concern across Kerala. ❖ West Nile virus is a single-stranded RNA virus transmitted mainly by mosquitoes. ❖ It shares similarities with viruses causing Japanese encephalitis and yellow fever. ❖ The virus gets transmitted from person to person through the biting of infected Culex mosquitoes. ❖ They acquire the virus from infected birds (mostly migratory). ❖ It also infects humans, horses and other mammals.

Rules on contesting seats

❖ According to the Representation of the People Act (RPA), 1951, a candidate is permitted to contest an election from up to two constituencies. ❖ But he or she can hold only one seat at a time if elected from both. ❖ A sub-section, 33 (7), of the RPA, allowing a candidate to contest from two seats, was introduced through an amendment in 1996. ❖ Prior to which there was no bar on the number of constituencies from which a candidate could contest. ❖ However, Section 70 of the same Act stipulates that a candidate can hold only one seat at a time, regardless of whether he or she has been elected from more than one seat. ❖ Thus, if a candidate wins from two seats, a byelection is necessary from the seat he or she vacates. ❖ Moreover, a person has to be a voter in a particular State to contest Assembly polls from there. ❖ But to contest in a Lok Sabha election, a person can be registered as a voter in any constituency of the country. ❖ If a person is a registered voter in any constituency, he or she can contest from any seat in India, except Assam, Lakshadweep and Sikkim.
