Upper Siang hydropower project

❖ The Upper Siang project is a proposed 11,000-megawatt hydropower project on the Siang River in the Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. ❖ The Siang originates near Mount Kailash in Tibet, where it goes by the name of Tsangpo. ❖ There are 29 hydroelectric projects (installed capacity of over 25 MW) in the Siang River basin, with a combined installed capacity of 18,326 MW. ❖ The proposed Upper Siang project’s installed capacity is roughly 60% of this figure. ❖ Activists say it will cause to submerge more than 300 villages belonging to the Adi tribe.

செம்மொழியாக அறிவிக்கப் படுவதற்கான நிபந்தனைகளில் மாற்றம் 2024

இந்தச் சிறப்பு அந்தஸ்தினை வழங்குவதற்கான சில நிபந்தனைகளை மாற்றுவதற்கு மத்திய அரசு முடிவு செய்துள்ளது. இந்தியாவில் தற்போது ஆறு செம்மொழிகள் உள்ளன அவை தமிழ், சமஸ்கிருதம்,தெலுங்கு, கன்னடம், மலையாளம் மற்றும் ஒடியா ஆகியனவாகும்.இந்திய அரசானது, கடைசியாக 2014 ஆம் ஆண்டில்தான் இந்தச் சிறப்பு அந்தஸ்தினை (ஒடியா) வழங்கியது. மராத்தி, வங்காளம், அசாமி மற்றும் மைதிலி போன்ற மொழிகளுக்கு செம்மொழி அந்தஸ்து வழங்க வேண்டும் என்று தற்போது சில மாநிலங்கள் மற்றும் இலக்கியவட்டாரங்களில் இருந்து கோரிக்கைகள் எழுந்துள்ளன. இவற்றில் மராத்தி மொழிக்கான செம்மொழி அந்தஸ்து கோரிக்கை என்பது கடந்தபத்தாண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக நிலுவையில் உள்ளது.

Classical Language criteria 2024

❖ The Central government has decided to change the criteria for giving this special tag. ❖ India has six classical languages as of now – Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Odia. ❖ It was in 2014 that the government last granted the special tag (Odia). ❖ There have been demands from some States and literary circles for classical status to languages such as Marathi, Bengali, Assamese and Maithili. ❖ Of these, the case of Marathi has been pending for more than a decade.

Language Atlas of Tamil Nadu 2011

❖ It was Published by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. ❖ The Atlas has used the 2011 Census data for Tamil Nadu for its analysis, and puts the population of the State at 7,21,47,030.  ❖ 96.20% of the total population in the State could speak Tamil; 8.05%, Telugu; 2.59%, Kannada; and 1.40%, Malayalam – either as their mother tongue or as their first or second subsidiary language. ❖ About 18.49% of the total population in Tamil Nadu could speak English. ❖ The five major languages, classified on the basis of the total number of speakers in the State, are – Tamil (6,37,53,997), Telugu (42,34,302), Kannada (12,86,175), Urdu (12,64,537), Malayalam (7,26,096). ❖ Besides, there are 8,81,923 speakers of other languages. ❖ Over 24 lakh persons in the State could speak three languages. ❖ Excluding the trilingual, over 1.79 crore people in the State could speak two languages. ❖ Of the 17 Dravidian languages, speakers of 14 languages were found in Tamil Nadu, while those of Jatapu, Kolami and Koya were not present in the State. ❖ There are 60 million Tamil speakers, mainly in south India, and 68 million Tamil speakers worldwide. ❖ The first version of the country’s Language Atlas was published in 2004, using the 1991 Census data.

இது இந்தியத் தலைமைப் பதிவாளர் மற்றும் மக்கள் தொகைக் கணக்கெடுப்பு ஆணையத்தினால் வெளியிடப்பட்டது. இந்த வரைபடப் பதிவிற்கானப் பகுப்பாய்விற்கு 2011 ஆம் ஆண்டு மக்கள்தொகைக் கணக்கெடுப்புத் தரவுகள் பயன்படுத்தப் பட்டுள்ளதால், மாநிலத்தின் மக்கள் தொகை எண்ணிக்கை 7,21,47,030 எனக் கணக்கில் கொள்ளப் பட்டுள்ளது. மாநிலத்தின் மொத்த மக்கள் தொகையில் 96.20% பேர் தமிழ் மொழியையும்; 8.05% பேர் தெலுங்கு மொழியையும்; 2.59% பேர் கன்னட மொழியையும்; மற்றும் 1.40% பேர்மலையாள மொழியையும் அவர்களின் தாய் மொழியாகவோ அல்லது அவர்களின் முதல் அல்லது இரண்டாவது துணை மொழியாகவோ கொண்டுள்ளனர். தமிழ்நாட்டின் மொத்த மக்கள் தொகையில் சுமார் 18.49% பேர் ஆங்கிலம் மொழி பேசக் கூடியவர்கள் ஆவர். இந்த மாநிலத்தில் உள்ள ஒட்டு மொத்த மொழி பேசுபவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையின் அடிப்படையில் பின்வரும் ஐந்து முக்கிய மொழிகள் வகைப்படுத்தப் பட்டுள்ளன (6,37,53,997), 5 (42,34,302), L (12,86,175), 25 (12,64,537) ), மலையாளம் (7,26,096). இது தவிர, பிற மொழிகளைப் பேசுபவர்கள் 8,81,923 பேர் ஆவர். இம்மாநிலத்தில் 24 இலட்சத்துக்கும் அதிகமான மக்கள் மூன்று மொழிகளைப் பேசக் கூடியவர்களாக உள்ளனர். மும்மொழி பேசுபவர்களைத் தவிர்த்து, இந்த மாநிலத்தில் 1.79 கோடிக்கும் அதிகமான மக்கள் இரு மொழிகளைப் பேசக்கூடியவர்களாக உள்ளனர். 17 திராவிட மொழிகளில், 14 திராவிட மொழிகளைப் பேசுபவர்கள் தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ளனர் என்ற அதே சமயத்தில் ஜடாபு, கோலாமி மற்றும் கோயா ஆகிய மொழிகள் தமிழகத்தில் பேசப் படவில்லை. முக்கியமாக தென்னிந்தியாவில் 60 மில்லியன் மக்களும், உலகளவில் 68 மில்லியன் மக்களும் தமிழ் மொழி பேசுபவர்களாக உள்ளனர். 1991 ஆம் ஆண்டின் மக்கள் தொகைக் கணக்கெடுப்புத் தரவுகளைப் பயன்படுத்தி உருவாக்கப் பட்ட, இந்தியாவின் முதலாவது மொழி சார் வரைபடமானது 2004 ஆம் ஆண்டில் வெளியிடப்பட்டது.

NASA’s CHAPEA project

❖ NASA’s Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) project is the first of three planned simulations to understand the challenges Mars poses for space explorers. ❖ A 3D printed airlocked Mars simulation habitat is dubbed as “Mars Dune Alpha”. ❖ The first CHAPEA mission focused on nutrition, and the next two are planned for 2025 and 2026. ❖ NASA hopes to send astronauts to Mars by the 2030s.

SDG India Index 2023-2024

❖ Tamil Nadu has emerged as a frontrunner in the latest SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) India Index 2023-2024, unveiled by NITI Aayog.  ❖ The state, which increased its composite score from 66 in 2018 to 78 in the latest edition, is in the third spot in the index. ❖ TN reported institutional delivery rate of 97.18% in 2023-2024. ❖ It had prioritised the environmental sustainability, with nearly 25% of its geographical area designated as forest cover. ❖ Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY has provided health insurance to over 300 million beneficiaries. ❖ Swachh Bharat Abhiyan facilitated the construction of 11 million toilets.
