❖ The 18 countries, including Benin, Bolivia, Colombia, Cyprus, Qatar, and Thailand, were elected by a secret ballot.
❖ The elected members will serve three-year terms beginning on January 1 next year.
❖ The Geneva-based Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body within the United Nations system.
❖ It is responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world.
❖ Saudi Arabia failed to win a seat in the Council, with finishing in sixth place.
