Bharatiya Anthariksh Station

❖ The union cabinet has approved the building of first unit of the Bharatiya Anatriksh Station by extending the scope of Gaganyaan program. ❖ India planned to create an operational Bharatiya Antariksh Station by 2035 and Indian Crewed Lunar Mission by 2040. ❖ The first module of the country’s space station is to be called Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS-1). ❖ This is set to debut with its inaugural module in 2028. ❖ The ISS is operational since 2000 and was a collaborative effort between NASA, Roscosmos, ESA, JAXA, and CSA. ❖ China’s Tiangong, meaning "Heavenly Palace," began its operations in June 2022. ❖ Russia plans to build its own station, the Russian Orbital Station (ROS).

 இந்தியா முழுவதும் ஒரே நேரத்தில் தேர்தல் நடத்துவது தொடர்பான கோவிந்த் குழுவின் அறிக்கைக்கு மத்திய அமைச்சரவை 'ஒருமனதாக' ஒப்புதல் அளித்துள்ளது. மத்திய, மாநில மற்றும் உள்ளாட்சி நிலைகளில் ஒரே நேரத்தில் தேர்தல் நடத்துவதற்கு ஏதுவாக சில அரசியலமைப்புத் திருத்தங்களை மேற்கொள்வதற்கான ஒரு தொடர் பரித்துரையினை அந்தக் குழு பரிந்துரைத்துள்ளது. ஒரே தேசம், ஒரே தேர்தல் என்ற அந்தத் திட்டமானது இரண்டு அரசியலமைப்பு திருத்த மசோதாக்களைப் பாராளுமன்றத்தினால் நிறைவேற்ற கோருகிறது. ஒரே நேரத்தில் அனைத்து தேர்தல்களையும் நடத்தும் முறைக்கு மாறுவதற்கான முதல் அரசியலமைப்பு திருத்த மசோதாவிற்கு மக்களவை மற்றும் மாநிலங்களவை ஆகிய இரண்டிலும் 'சிறப்பு பெரும்பான்மை' தேவையாகும். இரண்டாவது அரசியலமைப்பு திருத்த மசோதாவானது அனைத்து உள்ளாட்சித் தேர்தல்களும் (நகராட்சிகள் மற்றும் பஞ்சாயத்துகளுக்கு) ஒரே நேரத்தில் தேர்தல் நடத்தப் பட்ட 100 நாட்களுக்குள் நடைபெறுவதை உறுதி செய்யும். இதற்காக, நாட்டில் உள்ள மாநிலங்களில் பாதிக்கும் குறையாத மாநிலங்களின் சட்ட மன்றங்களால் இந்த சட்டத்திருத்தம் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் (ஒப்புக் கொள்ளப் பட வேண்டும்). Simultaneous Elections in India

❖ The Union Cabinet has ‘unanimously’ approved the Kovind panel's report on simultaneous polls. ❖ The Committee recommended a series of constitutional amendments to facilitate simultaneous elections at the central, state, and local levels. ❖ The One Nation, One Election project hinges on two Constitution Amendment Bills being passed by Parliament. ❖ The first Constitution Amendment Bill to transition to a simultaneous election system will require a ‘special majority’ of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. ❖ The second Constitution Amendment Bill will ensure that all local body elections (for municipalities and panchayats) are held within 100 days of the simultaneous elections. ❖ For this, the amendment shall also require to be ratified (agreed to) by the Legislatures of not less than one-half of the States in the country. ❖ This is because “local government” is a subject under the State List in the Seventh Schedule, which means only states have the power to pass laws on this subject. ❖ The scheme proposed by the Kovind Committee, if a state Assembly or Lok Sabha is dissolved before the end of its ‘full’ five-year term, a ‘mid-term’ election will take place. ❖ But, the newly elected state Assembly or Lok Sabha will only serve for the remaining period before the next simultaneous elections are scheduled to take place. ❖ This period between a mid-term election and a scheduled simultaneous election will be known as the “unexpired term”. ❖ During India's first four general elections (1951-52, 1957, 1962, 1967), the electorate voted for their respective state assemblies as well. ❖ Later, the process was ended due to formation of new states and reorganisation of others. ❖ In 1968-89, some legislative (state) assemblies were dissolved and led to ONOE being discontinued completely

Equal prize money

❖ The International Cricket Council has announced equal prize money for men and women in World Cups. ❖ It will be starting with the women’s T20 showpiece in the UAE next month. ❖ The winners of the Women’s T20 World Cup will be rewarded with $2.34 million. ❖ It is a 134% increase on the $1 million awarded to Australian women when they clinched the title in South Africa in 2023. ❖ India, who won the men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, received $2.45 million in cash prize. ❖ The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be the first ICC event where women will receive the same prize money as their male counterparts.
