Powerful Solar Storms

❖ Just days ago, two colossal solar flares have emerged from sunspot region AR3663 and Earth is in the firing line.  ❖ The first eruption occurred on May 2 and it was an X-class flare, the most powerful category of solar flares. ❖ It causes shortwave radio blackouts across Australia, Japan and much of China . ❖ X FLARE! Sunspot region AR3663 just produced an X1.7 flare, the 11th largest flare so far this cycle. ❖ The second eruption reported was an M-class flare. ❖ Flares are classified according to their strength. ❖ After the most powerful X-class, there are M-class flares that are 10 times less powerful ❖ It is followed by C-class and finally, B-class flares

'All-in-one' vaccine

Scientists have developed an all-in-one vaccine that they hope can protect humans against a broad range of coronaviruses, including ones that are yet to emerge. ❖ This vaccine works by training the body's immune system to recognise specific regions of eight different coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2 which caused the COVID-19 outbreak. ❖ The new vaccine is based on a structure called a nanoparticle – a ball of proteins held together by incredibly strong interactions. ❖ Chains of different viral antigens are attached to this nanoparticle using a novel "protein superglue".

அறிவியலாளர்கள் இன்னும் வெளிவராதவை உட்பட பரந்த அளவிலான கொரோனா வைரஸ்களுக்கு எதிரான பாதுகாப்பினை மனிதர்களுக்கு வழங்கும் என்று கருதுகின்ற வகையில் அவர்கள் 'All-in-one' தடுப்பூசியை உருவாக்கியுள்ளனர். கோவிட்-19 பெருந்தொற்றினை ஏற்படுத்திய SARS-CoV-2 வைரஸ் உட்பட, எட்டு வெவ்வேறு கொரோனா வைரஸ்களின் குறிப்பிட்டப் பகுதிகளை அடையாளம் காண உடலின் நோயெதிர்ப்பு மண்டலத்திற்குப் பயிற்சி அளிப்பதன் மூலம் இந்தத் தடுப்பூசி செயல்படுகிறது. இந்தப் புதிய தடுப்பூசியானது நுண் துகள்கள் - நம்பமுடியாத வகையிலான வலுவான தலையீடுகளால் ஒன்றிணைக்கப்பட்ட புரதங்களின் பந்து போன்ற அமைப்பு - எனப் படும் ஒரு கட்டமைப்பை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டது. பல்வேறு வைரஸ் ஆன்டிஜென்களின் தொடர்கள் இந்த நுண் துகள்களுடன் "புரத அதி இணை ஒட்டுப் பொருளை" பயன்படுத்தி இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.

First Indigenous Bomber UAV

❖ Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace Technologies unveiled the FWD-200B. ❖ It is the country’s first indigenous bomber unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). ❖ The FWD-200B is a medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle. ❖ With a payload capacity of 100kg, it can carry optical surveillance payloads as well as precision air-strike weapons.

Swell Waves in coasts of India

❖ INCOIS forecasted that high sea waves, also known as swell waves, might hit the coastal states. ❖ In March, swell waves led to flooding in several areas of Kerala — the worst affected were Alappuzha, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram districts. ❖ Such flooding events are called Kallakkadal in Kerala. ❖ During such storms, huge energy transfer takes place from the air into the water, leading to the formation of very high waves. ❖ Such waves can travel thousands of kilometres from the storm centre until they strike shore. ❖ Usually, states like Kerala witness swell waves as a result of strong winds in the southern part of the Indian Ocean, where an ocean swell is generated. ❖ The waves then travel north to reach the coast in two or three days. ❖ Tsunamis are around 10 times faster than swell waves.

குவிந்து எழும் (சீறும்) கடல் அலைகள் எனப்படும் உயரமான கடல் அலைகள் கடலோர மாநிலங்களை தாக்கக் கூடும் என்று INCOIS கணித்துள்ளது. மார்ச் மாதத்தில், கேரளாவின் பல பகுதிகளில் வெள்ளப்பெருக்கு ஏற்பட்ட நிலையில், இதில் ஆலப்புழா, கொல்லம் மற்றும் திருவனந்தபுரம் மாவட்டங்கள் மிக மோசமாகப் பாதிக்கப் பட்டன. இத்தகைய வெள்ள நிகழ்வுகள் கேரளாவில் கள்ளக்கடல் என்று அழைக்கப் படுகின்றன. இத்தகையப் புயல்களின் போது, காற்றில் இருந்து தண்ணீருக்கு மிகப்பெரிய ஆற்றல் பரிமாற்றம் நடைபெறுவதால், மிக உயர்ந்த அலைகள் உருவாக வழிவகுக்கிறது. இத்தகைய அலைகள் புயலின் மையப் பகுதியில் இருந்து கரையைத் தாக்கும் வரை ஆயிரக்கணக்கான கிலோமீட்டர்கள் பயணிக்கும். வழக்கமாக, கேரளா போன்ற மாநிலங்கள் கடல் சீற்றம் உருவாகின்ற இந்தியப் பெருங் கடலின் தெற்குப் பகுதியில் பலத்த காற்றின் விளைவாக அலைகளை பெருமளவில் எதிர்கொள்கின்றன. இந்த அலைகள் வடக்கு நோக்கிப் பயணித்து இரண்டு அல்லது மூன்று நாட்களில் கரையை அடையும். இவற்றை விட சுனாமி அலைகள் 10 மடங்கு வேகமானவையாகும்

Shaksgam Valley

❖ India has lodged a strong complaint with China over construction work in the Shaksgam valley. ❖ It is described as an "illegal" effort to change the situation on the ground. ❖ Shaksgam valley is a strategically situated region which is now part of Pakistanoccupied Kashmir (PoK). ❖ The Shaksgam valley, or the Trans Karakoram Tract, is part of the Hunza-Gilgit Region of PoK. ❖ It is bordered by the Xinjiang Province of the People's Republic of China to the north. ❖ The northern areas of PoK are to its west and south and the Siachen Glacier region to the east. ❖ In 1963, Pakistan ceded the Shaksgam valley to China when it signed a border agreement with Beijing to settle their border disputes. ❖ India had never accepted the China-Pakistan border agreement of 1963, under which Pakistan tried to illegally cede this area to China.
